Google Shuts Down Page Creator
By Nathan Enns on Thursday, February 23rd, 2006 at 5:23 PM
Google just launched their Page Creator service and has decided to stop letting people login or create accounts.

I wonder if they do this with every new service just to create twice as much press?

Maybe we should start doing this whenever we launch a new service at FyberSearch... or would that get too annoying?

Ask Jeeves Retires the Butler
By Nathan Enns on Tuesday, February 21st, 2006 at 4:50 AM
The search engine Ask Jeeves is officially retiring the butler.

This is probably due to the company wanting to target people performing keyword searches as well as asking questions.

Without the reputation of a question answering butler they might get a reputation for providing relevant search results for anything people type into the box.

However, they will probably have to do more than retire the butler to shed their long held question-answering image.

Stating the Obvious: The other word in their name also produces the image of a question answering service, at least in my mind.

New Article: Owning a Website
By Nathan Enns on Friday, February 17th, 2006 at 6:11 PM
Are you interested in owning your own website? Do you consider yourself a webmaster? Or maybe you are a web designer and have many clients...

Either way you should go read this article called "Owning a Website".

Here is the first paragraph:

"Owning a website is more than just having it built. Things you need to know before building a website of any kind. Internet business is big whether your business is solely Internet based or not. It's also true whether you are a large corporation or a mom and pop business with a small site for local clients only. The problem is that many people only do a limited amount of research when it comes to having a website built. Sure, people take the time to find an affordable web design firm or freelancer, after all...money is important."

Filter Your Blog Search Results by Authority
By Nathan Enns on Friday, February 17th, 2006 at 6:53 AM
The blog search engine Technorati has added a new feature recently that seems both unique and useful. It is a small green bar that gives people the ability to view results from blogs with more or less authority.

When people choose to view results from blogs with more authority they will receive fewer results... but do most people really want to read every single post about a specific topic? Especially considering how much duplicate content there is to be found on blogs.

Good job guys! Send me an email sometime if you have more cool updates :-)

To see an example go perform a search.

SimplyHired Job Search Engine at the Search Engine Journal
By Nathan Enns on Sunday, February 5th, 2006 at 12:00 AM
The Search Engine Journal found an interesting job search engine called SimplyHired.

Here is a quote from the article:

"A couple of days ago I met with SimplyHired. Beyond some interesting things that they were telling me about their roadmap, I was fascinated by the "vertical"‘ vs. "horizontal" search discussion we had."
