FyberSearch Brings Back Advanced Proximity Searching
By Nathan Enns on Thursday, November 24th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
FyberSearch has brought back a great advanced feature that became extinct (to our knowledge) after Yahoo acquired Altavista in 2004. From the help searching page:

Use the "Proximity Search" feature to require that each word in your search query be X words apart where X is the number you select. Specifying 1 words apart would be exactly the same as searching for a phrase. Specifying 2 words apart would require that each page contain the words you searched for with one word inbetween each word. You can use this feature from the advanced page or directly from the search box.

LookSmark Vertical Search Solution Failure
By Nathan Enns on Thursday, November 3rd, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Dustin Woodard, an editor at about.com, doesn't think LookSmark did a very good job with their mutual fund vertical search tool as he describes in detail here here.

Looksmart has failed terribly in their effort to create a fund site. It goes to show that it takes more then an unknowledgeable editor and some search programmers to create a quality site. Perhaps the logo on the site should be changed from LookSmart to LookStupid because that's how this site comes across.

Wikipedia on CD, DVD or in Print
By Nathan Enns on Tuesday, November 1st, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Could the Wikipedia end up on a CD, DVD or in print?

Threadwatch has the info.

I am not sure how useful it would be for those with an Internet connection considering the Wikipedia is updated quite frequently. I wouldn't want to view it off a CD if I could visit the website because I would wonder what I was missing.
