Here is a quote from the Google Blog:
"With the launch of Personalized Search, you can use that search history you've been building to get better results. You probably won't notice much difference at first, but as your search history grows, your personalized results will gradually improve."
Not a bad idea! Check out the Google Blog for details.
Gary Price is now 40 years old. He writes for Search Engine Watch Blog and owns ResourceShelf.

Interesting open letter to Google asking them to accept transactions for adult related purchases when they release their new payment processing system.
Gary Price at Search Engine Watch points out that MSN now has a local search page online in beta.
Take a look at the Small Business Blog Directory.
As the name describes, this website is a directory of small business blogs. Users are able to browse the directory by clicking on categories or by performing a search query. The search feature allows people to the following Boolean operators: "and", "or", "phrase". Each listing contains a title, description, date added and the category it was found inside. There are two links besides each listing, one of them allows the owner of the site to edit the listing and the other one allows searchers to add their own review.
Blog owners can add their website here.

You can try it out here.
Below is a quote from the Yahoo Search Blog:
"What we’re releasing today in the U.S. and the UK is only the beginning of larger efforts to help you find more of the information that’s useful to you. Just like everything else we do, Yahoo! Search Subscriptions will continue to improve."

Sid points out that SNAP now has a news search engine. The results are generated as you type.
"The fact that Google News uses automation to decide what to feature on its home page versus Yahoo employing human editors is often raised as a issue when comparing the services. In the case of the Michael Jackson trial, it looks like the humans won out."

New Google Adsense ad formats are now available. Check out the screenshots.
John Battelle reports that:
"Google plans to use trucks equipped with lasers and digital photographic equipment to create a realistic 3D online version of San Francisco, and eventually other major US cities."
Here is the source story.
Search Engine Watch has the story.
Congratulations Gary!
Just thought I would let everyone know that FyberSearch's index has been updated. Not all the results look much different but you should notice that the dates next to each result are more recent.
I also focused the crawlers on tutorials and XML feeds so there should be more results in the tutorial search engine and XML search engine Feedplex.
The Search Engine Journal has this story. Here is a quote:
"ICANN has approved the measure that porn sites will have the right to use a domain name with the .XXX domain extension. The voluntary initiative for the porn industry to differentiate its web site URLs with the .XXX domain name is heralded by some as being a good first step to end confusion over which sites carry adult material and which do not."

I was just reading an interesting report about Google and Yahoo. It appears they are together matching the growth of the top 10 information companies.
I wonder if the April Fool's day joke by Search Engine Watch may ever seem like a reasonable and even beneficial idea for both companies?
One thing is for sure, both Google and Yahoo enjoy surprising us :-)
