FyberSearch Officially Launches the XML Search Engine FeedPlex in Beta
By Nathan Enns on Wednesday, April 20th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Here is a copy of the press release announcing the re-launch of the XML search engine FeedPlex:

FyberSearch has officially released the XML search engine FeedPlex in beta.

Burien, Wash. - April 21st, 2005 -- The XML search engine FeedPlex was acquired by FyberSearch on November 1st 2004 and has now officially been released in beta.

FeedPlex (http://www.feedplex.com) is a search engine that returns results in XML format, including RSS and RDF. FeedPlex was founded in the spring of 2004 by Sid Yadav and was acquired by the web search engine FyberSearch on September 1st, 2004. The XML files used in FeedPlex are crawled and cataloged by the FyberSearch web crawler FyberSpider.

One bonus of having FyberSearch technology backing FeedPlex is that incoming links from non-XML web pages can be taken into consideration when ranking the XML files found in FeedPlex search results. Without FyberSearch, FeedPlex would have to crawl non-XML web pages for the sole purpose of counting the outgoing links but could not display them in search results because as they are not XML files. This would be a waste of computer resources.

"I am very happy that FyberSearch's technology can be used to help organize XML data." Says Nathan Enns, Owner and Founder of FyberSearch. "This is just the beginning of what I plan to do both FyberSearch and FeedPlex."

FyberSearch currently plans to continue developing FeedPlex with many advanced features, some personalization tools and a continuously growing index size. All feedback is appreciated, especially as FeedPlex is still in beta testing stage.

The search engine Snap now makes suggestions as you type a search query into their search box. It is similar to Google Suggest but Snap shows you the total number of times each word was searched for as opposed to the total number of results.

New Search Engine Become.com Officially Launches
By Nathan Enns on Tuesday, April 12th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Search Engine Watch has the story.

It looks like a good search engine to me. For some reason I thought it was a shopping search enigne similar to Google's Froogle. After reading Search Engine Watch I see that it is suppose to be a search engine that only indexes shopping related content.

If that is the case, why do so many pages from FyberSearch appear in the results? They don't relate to shopping or products.

Maybe I am just missing the point of the tool. No matter if it is for shopping or general web pages, Become.com looks good from what I have seen so far.

By Nathan Enns on Monday, April 4th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Mozdex has been updated with a new clustering feature.

Here is a quote from the press release:

"Mozdex.com announces the second beta of mozdex.com search engine incorporating internet search result clustering technologies.

Search clustering is the grouping of related results based upon your search term in an easy to understand format; helping you zero in on related terms and keywords that you may not have thought of. Clustering gives us the capability to refign broad keywords into more targeted subjects and provide the searcher with results that are grouped by relationship to searched terms."
