Upgrades to the Member's Area and Ad System
By Nathan Enns on Sunday, January 30th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
The FyberSearch advertising section and the FyberSearch Member’s Area have been completely upgraded. I have not written the official press release for it yet but here are some of the noteworthy features:

1. Instantly setup and edit any ads.

2. Watch their progress in real time.

3. No bidding or maintenance required. You choose the location and your ad stays there.

4. An easier to use layout to help you through the process.

For more info please visit ads.fybersearch.com and the members.fybersearch.com.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions I would enjoy hearing them.

FyberSearch Implements New and Improved Search Engine Technology
By Nathan Enns on Friday, January 28th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Burien, WA -- January 27, 2005 - The search engine FyberSearch has been upgraded with a re-designed core search engine program that provides users with more relevant results in less time.

This is the first of two major updates that will be made to FyberSearch in the near future. This update focused on processing data in a more effective way, which ended up improving the speed and relevancy of search results. The second update will focus primarily on the relevancy of the search results and giving users more advanced features to use.

"I am very pleased with the new version of FyberSearch and cannot wait until the second update is made." Says Nathan Enns, Owner and Founder of FyberSearch. "I plan to make FyberSearch as relevant and efficient as possible."

With this update comes more tools for users to check out. Visit http://www.fybersearch.com/help-and-features.php for complete information.

One development is the integration of XML technology. You can now view search results as XML feed or RSS feed for free by using the corresponding links from the FyberSearch Web Search results page.

Another valuable improvement is that no more than one result per domain name will be displayed unless the user specifies otherwise. This prevents SPAM to some extent and gives users more valuable and unique information.

Possibly one of the most unique features found at FyberSearch is the "keyword density" search setting. This tool has been upgraded as well and now allows you to view web pages that contain your search query at least X times. X=the number you specify.

About FyberSearch:

FyberSearch’s mission is "To provide users with the level of control they need to find the results they desire." FyberSearch offers many advanced features that users can easily modify until they find the information they are looking for.

FyberSearch Core Technology Update
By Nathan Enns on Friday, January 21st, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Just a few hours ago I uploaded a new version of the FyberSearch Web Search core code. This new version is the first of two major technology updates that will be made to the FyberSearch Web Search program in the near future.

After quite a bit of testing this program showed a significant improvement in the relevance and speed department. For example, if you search for search engine marketing the first result is www.sempo.org which many people would consider a very relevant result. Every search engine has queries that provide relevant results and some that do not so obviously the same is true for FyberSearch. In my opinion the results are faster and better than they were before this update.

One of the major changes made to FyberSearch was the domain-clustering feature. Before it would only indent and condense more than one result from the same domain. Now FyberSearch can completely remove results from the same domain. I am pleased that I was able to get this aspect working the way I wanted. You can still view all by turning domain clustering off.

For a complete list of changes please visit the help and features section of FyberSearch at www.fybersearch.com/help-and-features.php

I will soon be posting an official press release discussing this update in more detail as well as giving you more information about the next update that I have planned.

Please let me know what you think of this update. I am always looking to make FyberSearch as good as I possibly can.

Is Nathan Okay?
By Nathan Enns on Wednesday, January 19th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
Does it seem like there are fewer posts being made at the FyberSearch News Blog?

You are most likely correct, I am not posting as much because there is not a whole lot of developments to tell you about right now.

Don't worry though! There will soon be quite a few posts to be made and news for you to enjoy :-)

I decided some of you may appreciate knowing what I am up to besides answering emails and posting at www.NathanEnns.com so I decided to make a list of what I am currently working on.

1. The XML & RSS feed search engine FeedPlex that I recently aquired is almost ready for a beta launch. I am close to finished designing the website, updating some code and will be accepting your feed submissions very soon.

2. FyberSearch Web Thoughts is a tool I believe has potential in many areas. I am exploring those and planning to release some new search toys for you to play with in the next few months.

3. The FyberSearch Member's Area and advertising system is nice as it is but I think it could be more automatic and organized. Therefore I am going to make it that way.

4. At this very moment I am finishing up a major FyberSearch Web Search update. The core code and cataloging system has been reprogrammed and will be implemented in the next few days. Let’s hope it all runs smoothly. From my tests I have appreciated the functionality, speed and relevance quite a bit. And yes, it still gives you the control but helps you do so in various ways ;-)

So those are just a few things I am doing right now and more FyberSearch News Blog posts are coming soon.

Happy Searching!

FyberSearch Fights Comment SPAM with a New HTML Tag
By Nathan Enns on Thursday, January 6th, 2005 at 12:00 AM
FyberSearch Leads the Fight against Blog Comment SPAM by Introducing a New HTML Tag

BURIEN, Wash. -- January 5th, 2005 - In response to some complains about blog comment SPAM FyberSearch has introduced a new HTML tag that gives website owners the control over the content FyberSearch catalogs from web pages.

Some examples and directions can be found at http://www.fybersearch.com/fyberspider.php

"Current search engines catalog and save all content from each website they visit unless they are told otherwise by the Robots Exclusion Protocol or the Robots META tag. Website owners have no way to tell search engines to include certain sections of content but to ignore other sections." Says Nathan Enns, Owner and Founder of FyberSearch.

"This can result in content being cataloged that website owners do not wish anyone to see in search results. A more specific problem relating to the content cataloged from websites is that many people leave comments on blogs to try and get more links pointing to their own website in order to increase their rankings in search engines. Deleting a bunch of posts every day is a time consuming problem bloggers face."

FyberSearch has taken the first step in solving this problem for website owners by allowing them to remove the comments section of their blogs (as well as any other content) to take some motivation away from spammers. In order to be the most useful for website owners it will require the participation of every search engine in existence. While this is not likely to happen soon there is a chance they will develop their own "ignore tags" or even use the one developed by FyberSearch. Until that happens, FyberSearch will be the only search engine giving website owners this type of control over how their website is cataloged.
