FyberSearch Newsletter #30 (12-19-04 through 12-27-04)
I hope everyone had a great Christmas :-)
I am going to start formatting the newsletter a little differently to include more information for readers. Instead of just talking about the updates being made to FyberSearch and answering questions I am going to provide an overview of the news posts I have been making at www.nathanenns.com below the FyberSearch related material. I am also planning to write some articles/tutorials in the future and will include those as well.
FyberSearch News:
There haven’t been any updates to FyberSearch in the last week but I have been working on some new features.
1. I am going to install field search shortcuts for most if not all advanced FyberSearch features. An example of this is site:http://www.fybersearch.com would display all pages cataloged from that website.
2. In the novice user search results there will be tools allowing you to tweak your search results just as you can with the intermediate and expert user setting. The difference is that the advanced features will be labeled in normal English instead of with the feature name. I am hoping it will help bridge the gap between advanced searchers and the general public.
3. Feedplex will soon be accepting your XML/RSS/RDF submissions. I am currently working on the technology and plan to provide a useful feed search engine service.

FyberSearch Newsletter #29 (12-03-04 through 12-19-04)
To start this edition of the FyberSearch newsletter I would like to inform you about my new personal blog devoted to search engine technology: www.nathanenns.com.
I had been debating whether to or not to discuss the search industry in general on the FyberSearch News Blog or on a separate domain. I beat myself in the debate and decided it would be too much of a conflict to talk about Yahoo and Google in detail on FyberSearch. Thus, www.nathanenns.com was setup. Your feedback is always appreciated :-)
You also my enjoy reading the search engine features chart I just recently created and posted here.
For those of you advertising with FyberSearch you are now able to instantly edit any existing ads as opposed to emailing me. This should prove to be useful in trying to get more traffic and figuring out which keywords work the best.
I have added two new category search engines to FyberSearch: holiday and education. As it is the holiday season you may find the holiday search engine especially relevant right now. Visit the special search section to access the category search forms.
As always, send me an email at owner@fybersearch.com if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

I decided to turn www.nathanenns.com into my personal blog to discuss search engine technology. I have been wanting to discuss search engines in general as well as FyberSearch but did not think that the FyberSearch News Blog was the best place to talk about Google and Yahoo. Check it out, you may just find it useful ;-)

FyberSearch Newsletter #28 (11-19-04 through 12-03-04)
FyberSearch has been around for one year! It has been a great 12 months for me and I am looking forward to many more to come. The search industry is very new and I am looking forward to what technology will be developed as time passes. You can read the press release discussing the major developments at FyberSearch by going to http://www.fybersearch.com/pr-3.php
The main focus of this newsletter I would like to be about the future of FyberSearch. What features and options would you like to see developed? What would be most beneficial to your life and business right now if it magically appeared exactly as you pictured it? Email me at owner@fybersearch.com and tell me or read the list below first and see if you like any of my ideas.
Would you like to have an automatic search engine optimization program available to help you achieve higher rankings in search engines? I have heard from many users that the “view a URL like FyberSpider” tool is very useful to them as they optimize there website so maybe a tool specially designed for SEO would be more useful.
Maybe you would like to see me write some tutorials. I could write up some helpful information for people interested in starting their own website or business, search engine optimization, PHP and MySQL.
I could also write articles about search engine and Internet technology in general. Any interest there?
A different idea I had was to develop and release a simple PHP/MySQL script that would allow you to offer a site search on your own website. I have heard that many of the basic site search scripts do not scale to a reasonable number of pages and end up taking way too long to complete a search. I could create a program allowing you to easily setup a couple scripts on your website that will catalog and search your entire collection of documents.
I may decide to do one or all of the above mention tasks but it would be great to know which direction you would like to see me take the most. I would prefer to create something that helps you out instead of something that will just sit on FyberSearch and never be used. Also, feel free to suggest things that are not on the list above.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts :-)
If you have a question about search engines, FyberSearch, search engine optimization or other issues send me an email at owner@fybersearch.com
If you would like your question to appear in this newsletter please specify in your email what information you would like included in the newsletter. Not all questions can be included.
